Zora Neale Hurston

In the information i’ve researched about Zora Neale Hurston, it says that she attended Barnard College and studied Anthropology. My sister was a director of a certain program at the college and attended the school in the 80’s. It’s an all girl school predominantly white. My sister told me Zora Neale Hurston did not attend Barnard. She applied and discomfort from racism drove her away. My sister also said that they used Zora Neale Hurston as a diversity technique to want to make people of color apply to Barnard. In the 2000’s I remember seing the Zora Neale Hurston Lounge. My sister thought it was a bullshit apology that would manipulatethe truth about Zora Neale Hurston actually attending Barnard College.

I trust my sister wouldn’t lie and I did my research and find that it is a half and half. She could’ve attended Barnard but she possibly didn’t. It really does bother me that, the college could be taking credit for educating a great mind like Hurston’s and actually declined her because of her race.

I’m going to keep doing my research.
